Alexandria Governor Discusses with Abu Qir Fertilizers a Project to Utilize Industrial Waste and Produce Biogas
As part of Alexandria Governorate’s commitment to supporting projects aimed at optimizing the utilization of waste and maximizing the economic value of resources, Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, visited Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemicals Industries Company to explore avenues of cooperation in sustainable waste management and its utilization for energy production.
The Governor of Alexandria was received by Eng. Hani Dahy, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemicals Industries Company, in the presence of Eng. Doaa Abdel Razek, Head of Montaza Second District, Eng. Ahmed Abdel Kader, Chairman of Nahdet Misr for Modern Environmental Services, along with a number of the Company’s executives and the accompanying delegation.
The visit included a tour of Abu Qir Fertilizers’ production facilities to review the Company’s capabilities and industrial systems, as well as its production, automation and marketing systems. The delegation was also briefed on the Company’s efforts to implement best environmental practices and enhance sustainability.
The visit also included a meeting to discuss a proposed project for the treatment of industrial waste at waste disposal sites and its utilization in the production of biogas. The project aims to convert waste into a source of economic value and maximize resource utilization, in accordance with approved technical and environmental standards and requirements.
Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, emphasized the Governorate’s commitment to supporting and encouraging projects aimed at converting waste into added value and implementing sustainable solutions that combine environmental and economic dimensions. He noted that cooperation with Abu Qir Fertilizers, as one of the major industrial entities in Alexandria, represents an important opportunity to explore innovative solutions in the field of waste management and energy production.
The Governor further stated that the visit comes within the framework of Alexandria Governorate’s efforts to support and encourage projects aimed at maximizing the utilization of waste and converting it into added value, while promoting sustainable solutions that integrate environmental and economic objectives. He highlighted that cooperation with Abu Qir Fertilizers represents an important opportunity to explore innovative approaches to industrial waste management and its utilization in energy production.
He also stressed the importance of continued coordination among all concerned parties and conducting comprehensive technical, environmental and economic studies of the proposed project to achieve the best possible outcomes and support the State’s orientation toward sustainable development and environmental protection.
The Governor of Alexandria praised the level of performance and management practices at Abu Qir Fertilizers, as well as the Company’s commitment to environmental protection, emphasizing that the Company represents one of the major industrial landmarks of which Alexandria is proud, given its long-standing industrial history and significant contributions to supporting the national economy.
For his part, Eng. Hani Dahy, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemicals Industries Company, welcomed the Governor of Alexandria’s visit, affirming that the Company always welcomes cooperation with State institutions and national companies in all areas that support sustainable development and enhance resource efficiency.
He explained that Abu Qir Fertilizers places great importance on environmental sustainability and continuously seeks to adopt solutions and technologies that contribute to reducing carbon emissions, improving environmental performance, and maximizing the utilization of resources and waste. He noted that exploring the proposed project for utilizing industrial waste to produce biogas represents an important step toward assessing the possibility of transforming an environmental challenge into an opportunity with both economic and environmental returns.
Eng. Hani Dahy further affirmed the Company’s commitment to cooperating with Alexandria Governorate and Nahdet Misr in studying the proposed project and conducting the necessary technical, economic and environmental studies, in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to ensure the identification of the most effective solutions and the creation of sustainable added value.
At the conclusion of the visit, the parties agreed to establish a joint working team representing the concerned stakeholders to conduct the necessary studies for the proposed project, enabling a comprehensive assessment of its feasibility and potential implementation in accordance with the highest technical and environmental standards, in line with Egypt’s national direction toward sustainable waste management, maximizing resource utilization, and supporting the transition toward a circular economy.
